Today I came across with an incident which made me fell that the attitude of some Pahadis is so rotten towards Madhesis. The former ones think that all people with Hindi tone are Indian citizens and they must be illtreated whenever possible.
I came to realise that there should be a big social movement for the change of this attitude towards Hindi, Maithili, Bhojpuri et al speaking brothers and sisters living in Tarai.
The incident that occured today when I was in a microbus to Baneswor. There was debate between a Madhesi man and the staffs of the bus for some space on the seat. Another passenger came in between to make the man silent accusing him to be an Indian citizen. After a short debate the passenger slapped on the head of the man. He was stopped by other passengers. I was already late for my office so I dropped in Baneswor.
So, the problem here is actually our attitude. Why don't we think that we should behave well with everybody whether s/he be a Madhesi, Dalit, Janajati, Indian or American. We are in the 21st century but our thinking is so nomadic. We talk about human rights, democracy and global brotherhood but we behave wildly and undemocratically.
So I came to the conclusion that the current Madhesi and Ethnic movement is not just a havoc. They all need respect and equal treatement by not only the government but also by the other so called elite communities.
This is not the issue of the present constitution, this is the issue of morality and attitude of the ruling class, the elite and the so called the nationalist citizens who knowingly or unknowingly attempt to mistreat Indian and they don't realize that there are more than 50% of Nepalese who physically and linguistically look like Indian.
So nationality is such a thing that blooms the seed of love and respect among all its nationals not only in constitution but in practice. Unless we all change our attitude towards others and start equal treatment with each other, national sovereignty and integrity is always at risk.
So, lets respect Madhesis. Let's change our attitude.
